cocks and frocks

Met up with Charlotte and Matt in the Village, followed by Friendly Society and a late night tapas at Cafe Espana. We haven’t been in a gay bar for so long, it was intriguing. I may have to stage a second coming out and break my long seclusion from the scene. After all, the 1980s recession created much of the London gay scene, but the coming recession could break it. We need to support them and buy their crap lager and double G&Ts. Still, it’s all about the venue, not the drinks. The pumping conversation drowning pop music! The careful glances and appraising nods! The muscular bar staff in sleeveless vests! My weekly copy of QX magazine! Oh Soho, I shall not desert thee.

Have just sent Steve C from our flat where he has been staying into the damp and lonely Thursday afternoon to meet his Deborah. He bumped into a girl he went out with at primary school yesterday, and they’re meeting for lunch today. She’s even bringing her baby! With his big glasses and brown overcoat, Steve actually is Jarvis Cocker. It all makes sense now.

Matt and I sailed down to Tooting on this glorious sunny Saturday for some barbeque fun at Graham and Emily’s place. Miranda and Charles were there too. Charles and Graham had prepared various high quality meat concoctions, including delicious little Moroccan burgers and melting morsels of spicy pork and chicken.

Matt and I made cocktails: a classic line up of Bay Leaf Gin and Tonic (one of Matt’s inventions, and now re-christened Woodland Tramp), followed by a couple of Londoners and a few Charlie Chaplins.

We played boules as well, and managed not to destroy Graham and Emily’s lovely wooding decking with the big heavy balls.
