first barbeque of the season

Steve C, Dan and Thomas stayed over after Feeling Gloomy, and we all got up in the late Sunday morning sunshine, nursing bleary heads with cups of tea, as Matt and Alex came by a little later.

We prepared a big barbeque lunch, and Dan's girlfriend Teresa joined us, and Jordan and Ben, and Thomas's girlfriend Alessia, and finally Phil near the end of the afternoon. It felt like a really hot summer's day, with blazing sunshine, charcoal barbeque smoke and loud music blasting from our living room. I got very drunk and once everyone had gone, Matt and I collapsed in bed sound asleep by 8pm...

napoleon dynamite

Matt has just made us both a Napoleon Dynamite, his new cocktail which he has invented. It follows the same sort of route as a Charlie Chaplin, a seductive geeky twang with a fruity finish.

Napoleon Dynamite

50ml Mandarine Napoléon
25ml sloe gin
20ml lemon juice
Dash of orange bitters

Shake with ice and strain into a chilled martini glass.

sitting on the roof terrace

It's a lovely hot Saturday morning! I'm just sitting on the roof terrace, drinking milk and enjoying the sun. I love sunny mornings – it's starting to heat up but there's still the bite of the night, and something very still and wistful in the air.

tidying the flat

Hmmmm, just got home, and Matt was in the bathroom with rubber gloves on frantically scrubbing. He looked up at my face. "No, I haven't taken speed" he reassured me, "but in case you've forgotten, we have Swedish visitors coming tomorrow."

Of course! Swedish guests! Linda and Anders are coming to stay. And Swedes, through no fault of their own, are incredibly tidy people. I'd better get scrubbing too...
