macmillan coffee morning

Headed over to Second Life this morning to join in with a virtual version of Matt's Macmillan biggest coffee morning in the world fundraising thing. More fun than I expected. I hung out drinking virtual coffee and virtual orange juice, then someone gave me a couple of dance scripts, so I jived around the room waving my coffee cup like a loon.

twitter

This is quite amusing. I'm trying out Twitter at the moment, probably one of the most pointless but strangely fun social networking thingies I'm come across. I've got a profile on Twitter, which means I can send little updates on what I'm up to through my phone and it updates online so that all of you guys can keep up to date with all the most tedious and mundane minutiae of my existence! Isn't that fantastic? They're a bit like the "my status" comments on Facebook.

I've put a little box on the side of Sunnyblue so that you can read these wonderful useless micro blogging nuggets.

There's this quite cool website - Twittervision - where you can see instant pop-up bubbles of inane thoughts appearing all over a map of the world. It's strangely addictive.

svarga

Just spent an hour or so exploring Second Life. Haven't had much of a chance to spend any time there since I set up an avatar a few weeks ago.

It's fun wandering around, but I think the main point of it is social interaction and I don't really know anyone in it. I'm not sure I can be bothered to get to know anyone in it either. Acquiring new virtual friends seems quite exhausting to me right now.

Today I visited Svarga, a painstakingly modelled ecological island experiment, with rather beautiful terrain and plants and a cool music room in one of the buildings there, where I spent twenty minutes playing on some elven drums while two other people who wandered into the room played on other instruments around the room. Virtual jamming!

As I flew out I saw a rather magnificent dragon avatar perched up on top of a spire. I think I'd like to be a dragon at some point. Right now I've got pink hair though, which makes me happy.
