Alphabetical distribution histogram, not including compilations. Annotated version at flickr.
I put my CDs in alphabetical order. I have no CDs by artists with X at the start of their name.
I found I have 2 copies of Marvin Gaye - What’s Going On, Underworld - Dubnobasswithmyheadman, Pizzicato 5 - Playboy & Playgirl and Aphex Twin - Come To Daddy Remix. I’m missing Beastie Boys - Ill Communication and possibly some others which I’ve forgotten about. If you’ve lived with me over the last 6 years or so and you’re missing any of these or have an extra copy of that Beastie Boys CD lets swap.

And then tom said:Yeah, the whole excercise was perhaps a little geeky but I was getting sick of not being able to find stuff and since I’ve been rediscovering the joys of physical music media it was a good way to find stuff that I’d forgotten about. Plus, it was that or watch the football.
If i’d given the picture more thought I would have left a gap for the X as you suggest and taken a series of front on shots so that I didn’t have to muck with the perspective in Photoshop to get the lines straight. Also, that way the height of the stacks would have been closer to proportional to their values…
‘C’ has 58 CDs in the pile and ‘S’ has 70 but they look about the same height, partly down to the afforementioned perspective, partly down to Julian Cope’s predilection for oversized CD packaging and Sonic Youth’s use of those flatish cardboard ones for their SYR releases.
