In Nintendonian cosmogony the universe is created for the purpose of Mario, the very name of the land is testament to this belief. He can travel to any realm within the Nintendo worlds, and on occasion is able to manifest in our own world. Whilst central to the mythos, scholars in recent times have dismissed the idea that Mario is the king of the gods, instead tending to think of him as a caretaker deity or nature god within the Nintendo pantheon, his exploits often concerning the cleaning and stewardship of the land. Mario can be seen to represent the status quo and is the patron of manual workers.
